Welcome to Taylor, Texas
The Zest Of Texas.
Taylor, Texas is located in Williamson County at the intersection of US Highway 79 and State Highway 95. Taylor was founded in 1876 as Taylorsville, in honor of an International & Great Northern Railroad executive, a post office opened that same year. A second railroad line, the MKT Railroad, came to town in 1882, the same year that the town was formally incorporated. In 1892 the town's name was shortened to Taylor, and cotton and cattle were the primary drivers of the economy.

Howard Theatre
The Howard Theatre in Taylor, Texas isn't the original Howard Theatre.
Originally operated as the Rita Theatre, the theater opened in 1940 to show b-run movies, while the Howard Theatre was across the street and showed first runs.
The Howard closed, and after a renovation, the Rita reopened as The New Howard Theatre in 1959 with the old Howard Theatre sign out front.
As of this writing, the Howard Theatre closed in March 2020.
