The Story
However, when the railroad came to the area in 1881, the tracks were one mile west of town, and everyone moved in that direction. The arrival of the railroad left St Dominic disconnected and out of the way. In 1912 a fire burned St Dominic, and the congregation decided to build The Holy Cross Church, a new church closer to the railroad, instead of rebuilding St Dominic.
Have you ever seen the ruins of a stone building in the middle of nowhere protected by a metal fence with the grass mowed around it?
