The Story
Located in Langtry, Texas, this was once the Val Verde County Deputy Sheriff's Office for Langtry. The county seat of Val Verde County, Del Rio, is some 60 miles away to the east. Langtry was once known as the home of the Law West of the Pecos, Judge Roy Bean. Judge Bean would hold court in front of his saloon, The Jersey Lilly, and was known for his unusual verdicts and fines that matched the exact amount of money that a person was carrying. The state never saw any of the fines Judge Bean levied, and even when he eventually was elected out of office, Judge Bean refused to stop trying cases.
