The Story

Big Tree is located in Goose Island State Park near Lamar, Texas. The Big Tree is believed to be at least 1,000 years old and one of the largest live oaks in the United States. With a circumference over 35 feet, a height over 45 feet, and a crown spread 90 feet across the Big Tree has survived at least 40 major hurricanes, numerous floods, droughts and wildfires, and the destruction of Lamar, Texas during the American Civil War.
